We are witnessing the most significant decline in childhood vaccination rates in a generation as per WHO/UNICEF latest data released on 15 July 2022.

In an op-ed for The Hill, Lori Sloate, senior member of the Measles & Rubella Partnership (M&RP) and UN Foundation Senior Director for Global Health, highlights the potential long-term health, financial, and social consequences of declining routine immunization during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sloate, who is also co-chair of Immunization Agenda 2030 Advocacy & Communication Group, urges the international community to act quickly by conducting immediate outreach in lagging countries to catch-up with kids who have missed out on vaccines, while simultaneously strengthening routine immunization services to build on existing health systems in parallel to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and discusses potential financing mechanisms.
