Sophie Blackall
Sophie Blackall is a beloved, acclaimed artist, who has illustrated over twenty books for children, including the Ezra Jack Keats award-winning Ruby’s Wish, Meet Wild Boars, Big Red Lollipop, which was a New York Times Top Ten Picture Book for 2010, and was included in the New York Public Library’s list of 100 Great Children’s Books of the Last 100 Years, Pecan Pie Baby, which won a Horn Book honor in 2011, and the New York Times bestselling series, Ivy and Bean.
Sophie joined the Measles & Rubella Partnership in 2012, when she travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to meet health workers and families affected by measles. Her trip inspired the exhibit “Let Every Child Have a Name: The Road to a World Without Measles,” which was unveiled in September 2012.
Sophie has since travelled to India to witness the measles catch-up campaign in Varanasi. Together with her daughter Olive, she summarizes the campaign this way, in true artist’s style.
Sophie’s artwork features throughout this website, and much of the M&RP’s designed documents and campaign materials. We are also very happy to be working on design with Sara Gillingham, an award-winning art director and designer who has previously collaborated with Sophie on the Ivy & Bean series of books.
