Measles & Rubella Partnership (M&RP) and its founding partners — American Red Cross, US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United Nations Foundation (UNF), UNICEF and WHO — continued to update global stakeholders about the growing risk of increase in vaccine preventable childhood killer diseases like measles during the COVID19 pandemic. New York Times’s front page story — Slowing the Coronavirus Is Speeding the Spread of Other Diseases — quoted M&RP and its partners and highlighted that out of the 28 countries that have postponed measles vaccination campaigns due to COVID19, 18 are experiencing ongoing measles outbreaks. The coverage comes as a follow up to an M&RP statement that was issued in April and is in-line with efforts to highlight the commitment of our agencies individually and collectively to address gaps and save lives.
